My long affair with old wood began early, with forts and tree-houses made from stuff scavenged from construction sites and demolished sheds and barns.
After earning a degree in architecture from Princeton, I started working with a builder on Cape Cod. I spent many after-work hours scouring beaches and dumps for materials, stock for my first habitat. After a stint in the Coast Guard, I taught high school, then became an educational facilities planner in NYC, all the while retrieving and repurposing materials.
For more than thirty-five years I have designed, renovated and sometimes resuscitated houses, always working on site and closely with my clients. Furniture and cabinetwork were integral to this process.
Now in my 80s, I am still repurposing materials into chairs, tables, beds, cupboards, mirror frames, boxes, etc. We should all be so lucky!
